Here We Go Again!

Oh it seems an age since I have sat and put pen to paper, metaphorically speaking of course!
 Those of you who follow us regularly know I often write around the time one of my children is preparing to walk down the aisle, and today is no different. Our sixth child is fast approaching her wedding day at the beginning of September, and as usual I am feeling very mixed emotions, suddenly we will be down to just four of us at home and that is something I have not experienced in thirty years. I'm not even sure I know how to do small!

Elizabeth always laughs at me in the shop because I really struggle to do smaller posy type bouquets because it's just not in my nature to do petite!! I am sure these youngest two  will become as fat as little piglets because I will over cater at dinner time, lol. But like all things in life I am sure I will grow accustomed to a quieter house and will relish having more time to spend with my youngest two children, who are not that young anymore, {they will always be the "little two" in my mind.}

So my attention is turning to those all important flowers. Olivia has entrusted to us the design and given us free reign in the decorating of the venue, so her sisters and I keep putting our heads together to discuss our options. It is lovely to be able to work with my girls on dreaming up beautiful ideas and we very much draw on our inspiration from the work we do in the shop.

 My favourite part of this job is working with brides to create something unique for their special day. It is such a blessing to arrive at someones home and hear the squeals of delight as the flowers are brought in. Excitement is so captivating and just raises any persons day to the next level, so to have the privilege of seeing our brides and their maids on their wedding day with all the froth of net, lace, and prosecco is enchanting.

Late Summer weddings still have a wide range of flowers open to them. My faves are still hydrangeas but we have been doing bouquets with bold colours recently. Strong yellows in the form of sunflowers mixed with lovely sharp pinks, blues and a real pop of violet, interspersed with lots of lovely wild foliage which I just love. My heart very much leans to that slightly more wild and free look for a wedding bouquet. Something that looks like you skipped through the meadow that morning and picked the prettiest of blooms and gathered them all together with different herbs and leaves, creating something that is very natural.

I know one thing whatever floral extravaganza's we create for my daughter, or any other bride for that matter nothing will ever outshine the beauty of a bride on her wedding day, and as someone once said to me "a bride makes everyone smile." So if you happen across our wedding I will be the one with the big smile on my face and a small tear in my eye !
