The Arbour goes national!!

Over the past few weeks here at The Arbour we have been experimenting!

This is a really exciting project for us, drum roll please.....we can now deliver flowers all over the U.K. Now I know for some of our customers this will be a bit like "welcome to the twenty-first Century."  But for us it has been quite a while in the making. Just building up the courage to venture outside our comfort zone has been quite an ordeal.

Anyway if you have any birthdays, anniversaries or another celebration which you think The Arbour flowers would be just perfect for then don't hesitate to phone us 01522 537518 and we will set the wheels in motion and send some flowers to your loved ones.

Feeling Good with Flowers!

Fresh flowers should not be confined to just celebrations or flower festivals. It is now well documented how flowers can bring a sense of well-being and greatly improve people's moods and reduce the likelihood of stress related depression.

The presence of flowers can subtly alter the atmosphere of a room creating an oasis of calm. Natural beauty is very soothing to people. Waking up next to some beautiful flowers is a wonderful way to start the day. Flowers seem to be able to get the day off on the right footing and it makes it easier to get out of bed!

A study in the States showed that the presence  of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner. If that wasn't enough just think of the joy it brings when you give someone special to you flowers.

So know matter how big or small your home, it is advisable to make your safe haven, cozier and smell delicious by having some flowers in the main areas for everyone to enjoy.

But these feelings of well-being  don't need to be confined to just the home, the work place can become a far more creative and productive place if people can see fresh flowers. Another study in the U.S showed that  not only did it brighten up the working environment, but the workforce became better at innovative thinking and more creative at problem solving. So all you bosses out there fill your offices with flowers and get those creative juices running!

Christmas is coming........!

I cannot believe that here I am in August sitting enjoying one of the nicest summers that we have had
in years and I am having to think about Christmas!
Here at the Arbour our dear postman keeps dropping in with our post, his arms filled with Christmas catalogues.
Now,I know it is on the horizon, and I  acknowledge  I am going to have to face this, and I will openly admit that Christmas is one of my favorite  seasons in the shop. (The other being wedding season.)but the girls are having to drag me kicking and screaming into thinking about it just now
when temperatures are soaring.

I am having trouble keeping up with the seasons. Am I the only person who thinks this year is cantering by? I keep asking customers if they would like a nice spring  mix!

It does not seem five minutes since the buds on the trees sprang forth and gave us the beautiful  blossom, which in turn gave way to a garden full of righteous colour. Now there are tractors on all the roads as the farmers work around the clock to bring the harvest home.
The colours in the shop will begin to turn from the soft pinks of larkspur and hydrangea into the
muted yellows and oranges of autumn.

But Christmas! Still, I know time waits for no man, and so I must turn my attention to the days drawing in. I need to think about the time we will all need to pull on warm cozy sweaters to keep the chill off, Crackling fires and the heady scents of Christmas. So with that in mind I think a nice cup of something from our favorite tea shop  across the road,"Bunty's," a piece of cake to calm my nerves and we will begin to plan something very special for you all.

          Petal Power.

Flower petals conjure up a real sense of romance. Wether it's scattering petals at your ceremony or real petals used as confetti, there is something really magical about them. We were recently asked by a bride for our bags of dried confetti so that she could scatter them all around their bed and room on
their first night as Mr and Mrs. So romantic!

Originally Rose petals  were used to symbolize fertility. A young maiden would walk in front of the bride tossing handfuls of petals as she went. Often they were red petals a sign of fertility, the young girl wore white as a sign of purity. Symbolically it meant the brides purity was now going to give way to the happiness of fertility.

For little ones who might be in the wedding party, but for whom carrying a bouquet or basket might be a little to much, scattering petals before the bride might be an ideal "big girls job" to give them. It also is a great distraction from any nerves they might be feeling.

Scattering flowers need not just be for the floor but can be used to great effect on your guest tables.
And don't think you need to be limited to just weddings, a summer  garden party can be made extra special with the addition of flower petals strewn on the tables. A harvest supper looks wonderful with the addition of yellow and orange petals weaving  in and out of the guests place settings. In fact the possibilities are endless!
